Abu Dis, Container 12/1/05 Wednesday A.M. 6:30 - 8: 45 Nora B. Sophie, guest journalist from Argentina, Rahel M., reportingAbu DisWhen we arrive at the pishpash a dozen detained men stand together opposite the closed gate. Their IDs have been taken by BP about 15 minutes earlier. We drive about the area looking for the jeep, and do come across it. They say they are checking the IDs. One of the men says he has a tasrich to work in Jerusalem inside his ID. In a few minutes the jeep comes back and returns all the IDs. The man with the tasrich is told to go on to work, the rest to return home through the monestary. There is a contstant small number of people going to work, walking down the hill. Also a few school children, who either go down the hill, or are picked up by small buses.ContainerWe drive to the container by turning left at the circle with the sign to Kedar. The first and second barriers are open. There is a long line of cars going through the CP. We cannot see the end of the line. A group of five officers are having a conference standing close to where we usually stand, opposite the CP. The great majority of vehicles drive up to the CP, slow down, and then drive on without being asked to stop. That includes taxis, private cars, trucks. A few drivers are asked for their IDs. In the meantime a long line has formed in the direction of Bethlehem. A woman soldier notices, and starts quickly to check these vehicles. Pedestrians also walk quickly through the CP. This is the fastest I have ever seen traffic move at this CP. We decide to return home, and find ourselves stopped at the first barricade with the arm down! At the moment that we approach it, a truck approaches from the opposite direction. The driver gets out of his truck, moves the arm back out of the way, and the road is open! Who closed it and who opened it? We'll never know.
