Abu Dis & SawahreMon. 27 December 2004 PMObservers: Judy A. & Shlomit P. (reporting) The shift was from 15:00 to 17:0015:00 – Abu Dis – The road to the hotel was blocked by tractors, making it impossible to cross. Hardly any movement near the pishpash gate. There were no taxis, nor any Border Police presence. A few people crossed via the monastery.15:30 – Sawahre – The Container – From Sawahre in the direction of Bethlehem, there was a long line of cars throughout this shift – from the checkpoint, we couldn’t distinguish where the line ended. Checking lacked any rhyme or reason - sometimes it was very slow and every car was thoroughly checked, and then all cars were allowed through without being checked at all.Privately-owned cars were allowed over only with permits. Pedestrians were hardly checked. A number of young men were detained throughout the shift but all of them released half an hour later.About half an hour before we left, three young men and a Transit van were detained. By the time we left, they hadn’t yet been released.
