Qalandiya, Monday 17.1.05 AMObservers: Hava H., Michaela R.Summary: an uneventful vigil. The soldiers did their work efficiently. We did not exchange a word with them, only charged looks.South side: Pedestrians pass without any checking, walking alongside the concrete lanes until they come upon the barbed wire that leaves only a narrow passage northbound.Vehicles were checked. We saw one truck that was not allowed to continue towards Ramallah.North side: Two checking lanes for vehicles. Many soldiers, in most cases the checking is thorough and relatively swift.Pedestrians: proceed in groups of 5 towards the magnometer gates. One soldier regulates the process. When a line is formed, he calls another girl soldier who opens a special lane for women, children and the elderly. She checks IDs and takes an occasional peek into their bags, which spares them the turnstiles. No detainees, waiting time is usually just a few minutes.
