Morning

A
foggy morning.

6.25 .
Hizme. A very long line of
traffic – also on our return at 8.30.

6.30 .
Qalandiya.
Three
lines of people waiting to pass through the external turnstiles extended all the
way out to the parking lot. The few
women and families with little children proceeded to the head of the queue. It seemed to take about 20 minutes to
get past this hurdle. People were
let through the turnstiles in batches.
All five checkpoints were open, though the two nearest ones tended to get
clogged because most people headed for them. At these two, it took up to 20 minutes
to get through. As far as we could
see, a few individuals had to remove jackets. By 7.30, when we left, the pressure was
over. But it does appear that this
was the rush hour.

We went to
Qalandia early because we planned to go to Atarot afterwards and tried to, but, in the end, we found driving
in the intense fog too hazardous
