Seriously? Does this make us safer?

Huwwara Checkpoint: 8:25 AM

As usual on Fridays, traffic is very light.  The men are asked to take off their belts.

9:00 AM:

A line of 11 people has formed, waiting.  We ask the officer on location to open a second post.

9:30 AM

Two men, residents of East Jerusalem who carry blue {Israeli} ID cards, have brought a corpse in their car for burial in Nablus.  They told us that they are friends of the deceased who died while visiting them.  The soldiers would not let the car go through.  The people were waiting for a taxi they had ordered from Nablus to come and pick up the corpse.  When the taxi arrived they left their car next to the checkpoint and crossed on foot, with the corpse, intending to take the taxi to Nablus.

10:00 Za'tara/Tapu'ach Junction

We saw a kippah-wearing civilian standing inside the checkpoint and talking with a soldier.  We pointed this out to the officer and he asked the civilian to move away from the checkpoint position.
