Morning

6:20 Rihan-Barta'a checkpoint

The upper car park is already full of vehicles and people. An ongoing stream of workers come out of the terminal on their way to work at the Seam Line zone and inside Israel.

At the lower car park (entrance to the terminal from the side of the West Bank) there is a loge line but in order and quiet. Eeaad, the local smiley volunteer usher, overlooks that line, Next to him stands a representative of the municipality of Barta'a and by the carousel there is a paid usher who started working the day before. Every 3-5 minutes the carousel opens and 40-50 workers get into the terminal. The municipality person tells us that he keeps close contact with the checkpoint  management  in case there would be problems with passage permits. Another usher overlooks the car park area, His shift runs from 4 a.m. until 12 noon. Another usher arrives for a two hour shift in the afternoon when workers return home. This is a new arrangement that aims in preventing crowding that occurred in the last two months.

We went down to the entrance of the terminal leading to the Seam Line zone, opposite the Coffee Kiosk  there are seats.

Inside the terminal, until 6:30 six windows were open, which also provide some relief to the morning crowding.

Passage time for a worker is about 10-15 minutes.

7:00Traffic has calm down at this time only 3 windows are open.

7:10 Shaked-Tura checkpoint

Opened at 6:30 but yesterday it did not open until 7:00. At 7:15 school children begin crossing over with no noted problems.

7:35 Anin checkpoint

Opened at 6:30. We were reported, angrily that some workers weren't allowed to go through because their cloths did not appear to the soldiers as work cloth (for farming work). Two tractors were allowed through while a third one was sent back. We could not find out the reason for that.

7:40  The checkpoint closed.
