Afternoon

Nothing unusual, just a regular day of occupation and people who have to deal with lots of obstacles to reach their fields.

North Falamiya 914

Opening hours 12:45 – 13:15

12:20 An army Jeep is parking in Nabi Iliyas. We slow down to have a look: Two soldiers are patrolling along the road while two others are waiting by the Jeep. It's not clear what they are doing.

While driving down on road 55 to Izbet Tabib, Nina notices two new roofed waiting stations donated by EU. We wonder who uses them – maybe people going by taxi, since no buses pass here.

12:45 We reach the checkpoint at Falamiya North. The gate is closed still and people are waiting to cross in both directions. The soldiers arrive after 2 minutes.

12:50 The gate opens and the people start crossing, at first to the fields – 5 people all in all, among them a woman carrying two sacks and a young man helping her. She sits down on the other side of the gate to wait. There is a slight delay. After a few minutes, people cross. A tractor driving towards the fields stops next to the waiting woman to load her sacks and give her a lift. They drive away.

Falamiya South (West Jayyus)

Opening hours 13:20 – 13:40

13:25  We arrive. The soldiers are already here. The drive here was quiet: a young man walking and waving to us, a tractor.

A passage for pedestrians has been added to this checkpoint but it is still blocked.

13:45  The gate closes.

There are no soldiers in Nebi Iliyas on our way home.
