15:50 – Yaabed Dotan Checkpoint

Traffic was moving without delay. A military vehicle came and went. It appeared that even the pillbox was unmanned. All the fields in the Yaabed valley are beautifully cultivated. We stopped to buy ground coffee at the grocery store in Amricha.

16:10 – Barta’a – Reihan Checkpoint

Many construction workers were making their way home to the West Bank. Elia’s phone bears witness that many people who are prevented from entering Israel by the Special Security Services or the police are waiting, unemployed, for precious work permits, so that they can work in Israel.

16:50 – Tura – Shaked Checkpoint

The attractive streetlights along the road from Barta’a Junction to Tura have been here for some time, but they still don't work. This section of road near Ra’adiyeh is particularly dark, and the residents there still get their electricity from generators.

The checkpoint was quiet. Two woman soldiers continued to chat, ignoring for a long time a Palestinian vehicle waiting to cross.
