Morning

We met in the waiting room a gentleman who told us he was the Mukhtar of Shuyukh. Evidently very wealthy. His son wanted a permit but it turned out that the problem was that he had not paid his fines. In spite of the fact that his father evidently gives everyone in the family money each month. The father also asked for help as his mother is in her 90s and her family who are in Jordan want to visit her. He also has problems with his land as the settlers are slowly encroaching on it. We gave him the appropriate phone numbers.

The waiting room was fuller than we have seen it in a long time. It seemed that most of those waiting had been called in by the GSS. There were no long delays.

Actually it was a very quiet shift but it was very interesting to hear from the Mukhtar how he runs his family. One could not quite make out if as a moshav or a dictatorship. He does all the buying of necessities for the family and then each month gives them 4000 shekel.  We should have asked what his sons work at. He has two wives and at the age of 65 laughed and said maybe he would marry again.
