Etzion DCO: Happy to see us even though we can't help

Place: Etzion DCO
Observers: (reports) Shlomit Steinitz, Natanya Ginsburg
May-25-2026
| Morning

Owing to personal reasons we did not go to the DCO for two weeks. Being just before the Moslem holiday of Eid al Adha (the Moslem holiday of sacrifice), we did not expect many people, but the parking lot was jammed. As soon as people realized who we were, they crowded around the car. As always, we told them that, though we could not help them, their stories would go to human rights groups all over the world.

There were about 30 people in the hall and parking area. We saw one or two coming out holding the magnetic card but then a big group exited. We were told that only those who had registered were accepted, and those without an appointment were told to leave. We were also told that it is very difficult to make an appointment.

Shlomit said that she was on the bus and there was a man sitting opposite her. They saw the roads now being built for the railway line along Jaffe Street. 15 years ago this jeopardized many commercial ventures and will probably take even longer than the railway line to Hadassah Hospital,  and he said, “Why don’t they bring in the workers from Gaza who know how to build tunnels in record time.” Bittere gelechte – a bitter joke.

A man from Nachlin told us that settlers had entered his house, possibly guarded by soldiers.  One of the settlers shot him at the side of his stomach but he lived to tell the tale. We think he said he had been in contact with Hanna

Going back there was a traffic jam from Talita Kumi all the way down to road 60, and cars were steadily coming in. When we had to leave, they directed us how to turn the car as it was very difficult in such a congested area, and they thanked us for coming although we had done nothing.
