Accused of possessing weapons (rifle) from British times

Place: Etzion DCO
Observers: Shlomit Steinitz, Netanya Ginsburg (report)
Jul-14-2025
| Morning

A young man of 23 was accompanied by his father. He had been in jail for seven months and in that time had lost 12 kilo. Evidently that was not enough time for the GSS to question him and so had kindly remembered to do so after he was freed. There is also an uncle who has been in jail for a number of years. He was accused of having unlawful possession of a firearm. This had been  a rifle of his father  who had had it since the times of the mandate.

An elderly man was waiting for someone, as we  have written before people prefer to come to the DCO with a colleague in case something untowards happens and they are arrested on some pretext or the other. He was very sour towards us in the beginning but softened when Shlomit explained who we are. He told us he has children in America….they own two restaurants there and have no intention of coming back but have told him that they are now doing so well that he can sit back and relax and not work. He is luckier than most.

The waiting room was even more filthy than last time. I actually photographed a bucket with rubbish which we had already seen last week but unfortunately I have lost my phone so cannot send the picture.  I have little doubt that we will see it again next time we go.
