This shift was another show of the cruelty and the absurdity of the
wall, the security checks and the routine performed there. We spent
time talking to the soldiers and seeing to it that all the
detainees will get their IDs back. We met the officer by the closed
gate where he stopped a bus and the whole group whose IDs were
taken away had to walk down to the gas station. There they had to
join those whose IDs were taken by the hotel. The detainees were
“lucky” – since it was getting late- Ramadan- and they were on
their way back from Jerusalem- all were allowed to return. It took
an hour at least instead of the promised 10
minutes.
