Abu-Dis

Place: Jerusalem
Jul-28-2003
| Afternoon

Sparse traffic at Abu Dis. border
policemen come and go, harassing the taxis by ordering them with
harsh words to form a line, not to stand at the crossroad near the
little gate. At the little gate, 3 BPs checking papers are loud and
bossy. No news under the blazing sun.

Wadi Nar seems much like usual, no evidence for lightened measures.
3 border policemen check papers. Several detainees, and a long line
of cars, especially Jerusalem bound. One taxi has been waiting for
over an hour, because one of its passengers did not get his papers
back. We ask the BP, who claimed to have returned all IDs.
“Maybe someone else walked off with it?” However, we made
one phone call to try to help the paperless man — and Lo!, the ID
was immediately found and returned, and the taxi left.
