| Afternoon

There were no soldiers or border police to be seen at the Abu Dis intersection or near the university when we arrived at 2:00 p.m.There were very few people but an enormous number of transits. We counted over 20. We asked one of the drivers why there were so many, but he didn’t seem to understand our question. We walked up to the university and then to the hotel. All was very quiet. By the time we left, there were mobs of people moving about in all directions. Many were crossing through the narrow passageway between the concrete barricades; others were cutting through Al Quds, and still others were going back and forth via the field. There was a pile of rubble and garbage on the Jerusalem side to assist in crossing over, and large rocks as well as a wooden apparatus on the Abu Dis side. By then, two border police arrived who were haphazardly checking some of the younger men.
