Afternoon

Observers: Captain Yehuda,Safadi,Mohammed

| Morning

No soldiers around when we came. There is now a two meter high wall all the way to the hotel, some parts of which are topped with barbed wire. The previous passageway from the college to the hotel grounds is now blocked by a corrugated metal fence. All the same, young, able bodied people were scaling the fence. When several people were around, they even handed babies and bundles over and then climbed up and over themselves. At the new passageway was a BP car with two soldiers. Many of the people were rubbing their eyes, and told us that a few minutes before, a BP van had driven by and thrown some tear gas cannisters. Apparently, they did not like where the transits were parked — even though the drivers said that “Captain Yehuda and Safadi were there yesterday and said that that was exactly where the transits were to be parked”. We called Safadi who said he would look into it. Whether he did, we don’t know, but the next time that jeep passed through, he yelled at the drivers but did not throw tear gas. Most of the time we were there, there were no border police any place around and there was free passage through with no checking. It was a holiday — Mohammed’s birthday– so there was no school and less traffic than usual. Also, we noticed that the buses that used to go the gas station have obviously changed their route and now drive up to the little alley leading to the new cross point.
