Ar-Ram, Qalandiya 2/4/2004 Watchers: Navah E., Magdalena H. (reporting) In Jerusalem, between Zahal square and Prophet Street, there are checkpoints and more than usual BP jeeps around. Ar-Ram. Very few people and cars. Seven BP soldiers and one soldier woman at the checkpoint. The people had to get out of the Transits and busses for checking. Ten detainees brought from Beit Hanina waited already one hour to get released. They had to sign a paper that they were not beaten and nothing was stolen from them. Qalandiya. There was nearly no traffic from south to north; but from north to south, there was a long, long car line. They waited already two hours. The moment we came close to the soldiers, they started to check immediately and very fast, and the line nearly disappeared after half an hour.At the pedestrian checkpoint, two reservist women did the checking, and let everybody pass after a short look at their IDs. They are there for ten days. We phoned to the ten detainees at Ar-Ram CP, and they were released and on their way home. It took us 25 minutes to pass Ar-Ram CP in our car.
