Abu-Dis 14.1.2003 Watchers: Maya B. (reporter), Roshel L. We arrived at 6.30 am and were stunned to see the wall standing. I had been there on the tour with Dani Seidmann on Fri. the 9th of Jan. and the old blocks were still in the center of the village. It was still a bit dark and the only people there were the Palestinien workers of the wall and a group of security guards who were very unfriendly to us and refused to answer our questions, as to how the people of the divided village are getting to Jerusalem now. No one was allowed to enter the working area. We tried to walk up the hill to the hotel, but could hardly walk because of the mud, up to our ankles, and the driving tractors which make walking there dangerous. We decided to drive around the other side, past Ma’ale Adumim, see if there are many workers there and go to Waadi Naar. It was raining constantly. There were quite many workers walking in the direction of Ma’ale Adumim and there was a new concetration of cars and workers about 150 m. from the eastern end of the wall. At the checkpoint near Maale Adumim hardly any one was checked up. We proceeded to Wadi Nar, there were very few cars, most of which were let through without much ado, and just a few were send back. The soldier in charge told the one that was doing the checking not to talk to us. My impression was that it may be a result of the “Mabat Sheni” on Monday night on TV. My overall surprise was the resignation with which it was all accepted.
