Ar-Ram-Kalandiya, July 19, 6:30-8:10 AMObservers: Yehudit E., Ruti E., Irus B.(reporting) and Limor B. (visitor)Short shift. No “special” events.Ar-Ram: a line of cars (some 20 minutes wait) and of 5-6 people. Suddenly a Palestinian woman starts hitting another Palestinian woman, not clear why – probably on the issue of the line. The soldiers seem to be humored from this, one of them even video-tapes the event. The woman that started the incident is detained. Although there were seven BP’s in the checkpoint the line was moving very slowly. Qalandiya: quick checking. When we attempt to take photos, the soldiers shout that we are not allowed to. When we ask why, they say that those are the orders. We say that there is no legal ground for this. They don’t know. The other legal incident is when we come back – the soldiers inform us that formally they could call the police to arrest us because we are not allowed as Israelis to cross to Qalandiya. No success in understanding why, “those are the orders” – they claim (it is the commander of the checkpoint who says this!). We think that maybe they are mistaking Qalandiya for “A” territory. On the way we see the wall, only 4.5 meters high, being prepared parallel to the road to Qalandiya. On the way back to Jerusalem we travel by way of the new road that links Qalandiya to Begin road and the 443 highway. If I understood correctly – only yellow plates are allowed to drive on this road.
