Abu Dis 8/4/2004 Watchers: Ruhama W., Shoshana H., Magdalena H. (reporting), a guest A group of people passed via the Hotel. Along the wall and at the gasoline station, it was empty and quiet, but very crowded around the Pishpash gate. The soldiers said that there was a curfew, and only doctors and sick people can pass, but they didn’t let the sick pass, just two groups of Moslem religious men with bags, mattresses, cushions and more could pass after checking their luggage. An elderly Bedouin woman was sitting next to the soldiers on the ground. She was in a very bad condition after a traffic accident. The soldiers were not exactly helpful, and we phoned the commander, the Moked (Center for the Defense of the Individual) and the DCO. We were advised to take the woman with her husband to the DCL in Ma’ale Adumim, which we did. There, in this surrealistic place in the middle of nowhere, we got the permission for the woman but not for the husband. We took them both to Mkased Hospital in Jerusalem. The whole story took three hours.
