‘Anabta, Qalqiliya, Mon 23.2.09, Morning

Observers: Ronnie S. Francis T. Ornat R. Natanya translating
Feb-23-2009
| Morning

6.35 The Eliyahu passage.  Cars which have permission go through while others wait in line.

6.45
Qalqiliya.
No lines. No checking at the entrance not even of Israeli
cars. Some of the drivers wait to be waved on and only after a while
dare to proceed.

9.00
Anabta.
Heavy rain. About 10 cars at the entrance. No real checking,
cars are stopped for a question or two, but because of the rain the
soldier is inside the post and it takes time for the drivers to
understand  if he is signing for them to come forward and so all this
takes time.

9.45 The Te'enim gate. We waited for 15 minutes for the key to be found and in the end went home.

The checkpoint is located south of the village of 'Anabta, at the intersection of Road 60 (leading to Nablus at the entrance to Area A), with Road (57, 557, 5576) facing west towards the Einav settlement and the checkpoint at the exit from the West Bank - Figs checkpoint. Until 2010 we used to watch the intersection and report the long columns created due to a slow inspection of the vehicles in both directions.

    • Qalqilya is surrounded on all sides by the separation barrier. The only exit from the city is in the east of the city on the road that leaves the city in an easterly direction. This is where the checkpoint was located. When the checkpoint was active until 2009 our shifts watched long queues of cars being inspected at the only exit from the city to the West Bank. The checkpoint was canceled, but there is a military presence at the entrance to the city.
