‘Anabta, Qalqiliya, Mon 5.1.09, Afternoon

Observers: Elisheva E., Bil'ha A. (reporting) Translation: Galia S.
Jan-05-2009
| Afternoon

Qalqiliya

13:45 – Few cars pass without delays
in both directions.

Anabta

15:30 – The "Blue and White"
women [right wing activists] have done it again: Three small flags are
hung on the southern side of the shed as well as a 30×45 centimeter
sign which says in big and clear letters "We thank MachsomWatch
for helping our struggle succeed," signed "Terrorist Movement
activists". The reservists at the checkpoint have taken no notice
of the sign and haven't given a thought to what it says, neither have
they protested when we took it off.

A soldier is painting a large concrete
cube on the southern side of the checkpoint, and the traffic of cars
is stopped for a few minutes, which causes lines in both directions.
A few minutes later the traffic resumes and the cars pass fast without
inspections.

The checkpoint is located south of the village of 'Anabta, at the intersection of Road 60 (leading to Nablus at the entrance to Area A), with Road (57, 557, 5576) facing west towards the Einav settlement and the checkpoint at the exit from the West Bank - Figs checkpoint. Until 2010 we used to watch the intersection and report the long columns created due to a slow inspection of the vehicles in both directions.

    • Qalqilya is surrounded on all sides by the separation barrier. The only exit from the city is in the east of the city on the road that leaves the city in an easterly direction. This is where the checkpoint was located. When the checkpoint was active until 2009 our shifts watched long queues of cars being inspected at the only exit from the city to the West Bank. The checkpoint was canceled, but there is a military presence at the entrance to the city.
