Anata
Anata, 2nd day of Ramadan, Friday morning, 21.9.2007Observers: Mili M., Avital T. (reporting), Natanya translating9.45 When we arrive everything is quiet. No one entering or leaving. Only those with blue ids can pass. Already a crowd is at the checkpoint. Mainly the elderly who stand quietly and wait. No discussions or arguments. Most stand and wait and maybe sit in the bit of shade that they can find. The captains of last week are here, calm and restraining the soldiers and also some more captains have arrived. Sometimes the style is different. 10.00 Things begin to move slowly in the direction of the checkpoint. Soldiers move the movable barriers, trying and also arguing. Everything is restrained and each side knows what he must do. Cars drive through the crowds as usual from and to Jerusalem. 11.45 More pedestrians and cars of those who can enter the city and those who have been refused wait in silence. Soldiers slowly move the barriers into the neighborhood and an argument starts up as a last hope but slowly the crowd disappears. At 12.00 Everything is quiet.
