| Afternoon

Ar-Ram, Qalandiya 17.04.06 p.m.Observers: Lizi S, Noa EA factory for the production of hate, anger and painAr-RamAs we reached the checkpoint, a border police jeep partially blocked the road to Ar-Ram and every vehicle and its passengers were checked. Immediately, a traffic jam developed. The traffic lanes are not clear to everyone and there was total confusion on the street. At the next checkpoint, even those with blue i.d.’s were sent to Qalandiya. It appeared that i.d.’s of local residents were returned to Qalandiya and they were allowed to pass. Residents of the Old City could not pass after Beit Haninah. Only residents of the area were allowed to travel. People were frustrated and angry. Truck drivers were arguing and demanding to know why they were not allowed to pass. Rather than traveling for 5 minutes, they would have to travel for two hours via Hizmeh. We contacted Beni to clarify what was happening. He told us that they are getting the population accustomed to the wall that will be built tonight or tomorrow. Ar-Ram will be sealed. As usual, this happened from one day to the next. They did not publicize it, nor did they inform the people about the changes. A man who arranged with his son on the Jerusalem side of the Ar-Ram checkpoint and was waiting there with his car was sent all the way around. On our way to Qalandiya, we saw another checkpoint. The opening in the wall was opposite a border police base.Qalandiya. There was a long line of cars waiting to cross via the checkpoint for vehicles and on the way, the i.d.’s had their first check. Slow, long, and tiring. Again, people are required to get out of their cars and walk via the checkpoint for pedestrians. In one of the cars, four women were sitting. The woman asked what their ages were and afterwards, told two of them to get out. The older ones got out and they passed via the pedestrian checkpoint.Checkpoint for pedestriansThere was a line of more than 100 people. We waited and the turnstile did not move. The lines inside appeared to be long and only two lanes were functioning. They did not move either. Two police were walking around. We called the DCL and asked them to check why there was this delay. The line started to move very quickly and an additional line opened for checking. At the beginning, the lines were joined but then, when an additional lane was opened, the men were directed there. We traveled in a bus that was in the parking lot at the exit from the checkpoint to Ar-Ram.Before Ar-Ram. We asked Beni to cool down one of the soldiers there. He behaved crudely toward the people. Ar-Ram. Blue police – the regular Rambo, David Levi and his pals arrived at the happening at Ar-Ram. The policewoman, as usual, was smoking at her seat in the car while she was checking i.d.’s The people were very confused and expressed their trauma and their frustration. A lot of anger was directed toward us. We shared their very hard feelings.
