Barta’a Thursday, 11/8/2004 Observers: Leah B., Nava R. (reporting) 14:30. On the western side 8 people without permits are waiting. After a short delay, they are let through. On the eastern side, people go through with no hindrance. 15:15. There are rumors about the terrorist attack in Qalandiya, and the atmosphere at the checkpoint gets rather tense. Merchants on both sides meet with difficulties. There is an extra strictness on quantities considered “commercial”, and whoever tries to go through with such quantities is, as usual, redirected to Jalama. (Residents of Eastern Barta’a are not allowed to enter Israel anyway, and have to go to Jalama…) In general, the checkpoint operates efficiently. 17:45. We leave.

    • North of Jenin, on the Green Line between Israel and the West Bank. A big terminal for the passage of Palestinians with permits allowing entrance into Israel and goods into Israel operates there. In the course of 2009 the terminal was opened for the passage of Israeli Arabic citizens into the West Bank. Since October 2009 they may pass in their cars.
