Barta’a Wednesday, 28/7/2004 Observers: Lea R., Nava R. (reporting) 14:45. At the western checkpoint, 8 people are delayed for questioning; they handed their IDs in the past hour. There are no waiting cars. One detainee is waiting for an answer from the GSS. At the eastern checkpoint vehicles enter in a reasonable pace. A quiet checkpoint. 15:00. After the change of the shift, those who were being held for questioning go through the gate one by one. Workers returning from their day work in Israel to the West Bank pass through continuously. The checkpoint functions in a quiet and a successful manner. Both soldiers and those waiting appear relaxed. 2 loaded trucks are denied passage and are redirected to Jalama. The drivers — Israeli citizens — accept the denial and leave. Every thing runs in order and in patience. When we left the checkpoint as 17:00, it was vacant.
