7 cars in both directions and 2 checking areas. Next to the western booth are two young detainees staying in the heat and exposed to the sun. They are brothers from Idna, in Hebron vicinity who had been in Tel Aviv and had been detained and freed by the police. They do not have IDs as they came with their parents from Jordan 7 years ago. The father received his Id a month ago and we phone him to get the number. So it had been in Tel Aviv too. We phone K. at the centre to make enquiries as to what to do. In the meantime a policeman comes bringing a Jordanian birth certificate and a student card and gives these documents to the soldiers. He leaves and the soldiers do not know what to do. They say that they cannot leave until the ID is brought. Later the commander takes them to the parking area so as to separate them. One waits at the gaurding tower and the other is sent in the direction of the restaurant. When we phoned at 16.40 they said that they had been freed 10 minutes previously after having been detained for 6 hours.
15.07 At Huwwara
There is a detainee in the isolation and he has been there for an hour. He is from Burin and has been to a doctor in Nablus for the second time as he has stomach pains and so he had gone through the side lane which is supposed to be humanitarian. He showed the soldier there his medical report written in English and the soldier had taken it from him and put him into the isolation saying "Because of your words I am putting you here." He is in despair. Asks if Jews could live this way with checkposts all over. He says he prefers not to go to Nablus because of having to wait in line. At Burin, he tells us the settlers burn their lands and throw stones. It is no life.
At the centre Z. and A. knows about the man and says that there are all kinds of stories around him and there is much that is known and that he cannot say for how long he will be detained. He does not know if he will be detained for questioning.
Z. says that A. from the DCO is at the checkpoint but we had not seen him. We eventually find him and at 15.48 the man is freed.
The checkpoint is very busy and 3 lines of young men wait in a line which reaches the end of the shed. It is quiet today and the x-ray devices are working but not squeaking and the usual shouts of the military policewomen are not heard. The wait is about 15 minutes long. As usual the men come out with their belts in their hands. The humanitarian line is very full. There is a car with an x-ray device which has stopped working for a while and two soldiers check parcels by hand. No dog trainer today. Very little pressure on cars entering Nablus but the checking of those exiting is very careful. Two buses from Nablus with a family going to a wedding in Ramallah have already been in line for two hours. Those waiting at the entrance affirm this. We ask A. to help and he says that we should ask the taxi drivers to allow them to come through first. He says that the drivers do not agree but even if they did there is not enough space for the buses to come through. We ask Naomi L. to help to get them through quicker. It is now 16.00 and the wedding is at 17.00 . It seems that someone paid attention and the bus was checked taking the importance of the occasion into account. Until the next checkpoint.
A taxi driver says that on Monday or Tuesday the way from Haris to Kif el Haras was blocked with three mounds of sand and also the way from Haris to Dir Ista. They said that the army had thrown Molotov cocktails in the direction of Haris.
At Beit Furik is a little pressure from cars and pedestrians. At Huwwara no pressure of pedestrians but we cannot count the cars waiting to leave Nablus.

ליד עמדת הבדיקה המערבית שני מעוכבים צעירים עומדים בחום הכבד חשופים לשמש. מחכים כבר שלוש שעות. הם אחים מעידנא שליד חברון. היו בתל אביב – נעצרו ושוחררו על ידי המשטרה. אין להם תעודות זהות: באו עם הוריהם מירדן לפני שבע שנים. אבי המשפחה קיבל תעודת זהות לפני חודש ואנו מתקשרים לקבל ממנו את המספר. כך גם היה התהליך בתל אביב. פנינו למוקד: ק. מנסה לברר מה עושים. מגיע שוטר מביא עמו את המסמכים שהיו להם: תעודת לידה ירדנית ותעודת סטודנט. השוטר נותן המסמכים לחייל בעמדה ועוזב את המקום. החיילים לא יודעים מה לעשות."לא תעזבו עד שתביאו תעודת זהות" הם אומרים.. אח"כ מגיע מפקד המחסום מוביל אותם למגרש החניה עושה 'הפרדת כוחות': אחד יחכה מתחת למגדל השמירה ואת השני שולח לכיוון המזנון.
כשהתקשרנו אליהם ב-1640 אמרו ששוחררו לפני 10 דקות והם בדרך לרמאללה: הם עוכבו חמש שעות.
1507 מחסום חווארה –
בצינוק מעוכב כבר שעה. הוא מבורין, זו הפעם השניה הולך לרופא בשכם בגלל כאבי בטן. זו הסיבה שעבר בתור הצדדי, שנקרא " הומניטרי". הוא ביקש מהחייל שעמד שם שיסתכל על התעודה הרפואית הכתובה אנגלית. החייל לקח ממנו את התעודה ות.ז הכניס אותו לצינוק ואמר: "בגלל המילים שלך שמתי אותך פה". הוא מיואש. שואל אם היהודים היו יכולים לחיות ככה אם היו שמים להם בכל מקום מחסומים. מעדיף לא ללכת לשכם כי צריך לעמוד כל הזמן בתור במחסום. בבורין המתנחלים שורפים להם אדמות מרעה וזורקים אבנים. זה לא חיים. במוקד א. יודע על המעוכב וישנה "הילה של חשאיות" בקשר אליו: "יש עליו הרבה מידע..לא יכול להגיד כמה זמן יעוכב.. לא יכול להגיד אם דרוש לחקירה.".. ז. מהמת"ק אומר שע. נמצא במחסום. עד עכשיו לא ראינו אותו. מחפשות ומוצאות. מבקשות שיברר בקשר למעוכב.
1548 המעוכב עם ה"הילה של חשאיות" שוחרר
במחסום תנועה ערה של עוברים ושבים: 3 תורים לצעירים הממתינים לבדיקה, מגיעים עד קצה הסככה. היום שקט: המגנומטרים לא מצפצפים (אבל עובדים) גם לא נשמעות הצרחות הרגילות של חיילות המשטרה הצבאית. זמן המתנה: רבע שעה. כרגיל מחזיקים הנבדקים את חגורות המכנסיים ורוכסים מיד אחרי שעברו את הקרוסלות. תור צדדי לנשים, ילדים וגברים מבוגרים עמוס בממתינים. יש רכב רנטגן, לזמן מה הוא חדל לעבוד אז שני חיילים עמדו לידו ובדקו את החפצים האישיים של העוברים. היום אין כלבנ/ית וכלב.
בבדיקת הרכבים הנכנסים לשכם כמעט ולא נוצר עומס, לעומת זאת בדיקת הרכבים היוצאים משכם – קפדנית במיוחד.
שני אוטובוסים משכם עמוסים בבני משפחה נוסעים לחתונה ברמאללה מחכים בתור כבר שעתיים. המלווים מהכנסיה מאשרים. ביקשנו מע. שיעזור. הפתרון שהציע: שיבקשו מנהגי המוניות שלפניהם שיוותרו ויתנו לעבור. לדבריו הנהגים לא מסכימים; אבל גם אם היו מסכימים לא היה רווח מספיק כדי לאפשר מעבר לאוטובוסים. ביקשנו מנעמי ל. שתעזור במציאת פתרון מעבר מהיר יותר של האוטובוסים. השעה היתה 1600 והחתונה ברמאללה ב-1700.
כנראה מישהו שמע – נראה היה שבדיקת האוטובוסים נעשתה מתוך ידיעה והתחשבות באירוע. עד המחסום הבא.
נהג מונית מדווח שמיום שני (או שלישי) נחסמה הדרך מחרס אל כיף אל חרס בשלוש תלוליות עפר, וגם הדרך מחרס אל דיר אסתיא נחסמה. לדברי הצבא נזרק בקבוק תבערה מכיוון חרס.
1720 בית פוריכ – מדי פעם נוצר עומס (קל) של רכבים והולכי רגל מתחת לסככה .
1755 חווארה – אין עומס הולכי רגל מתחת לסככה. יש המתנה בתור הרכבים היוצאים משכם, אין אפשרות לספור כמה רכבים ממתינים.

One of the three internal checkpoints that closed on the city of Nablus - Beit Furik to the east, Hawara to the south, Beit Iba to the west. The checkpoint is located at the junction of Roads 557 (an apartheid road that was forbidden for Palestinians), leading to the Itamar and Alon Morea settlements and Road 5487. The checkpoint was established in 2001 for pedestrians and vehicles; The opening hours were short and the transition was slow and very problematic.Allegedly, the checkpoint is intended to monitor the movement to and from Nablus of the residents of Beit Furik and Beit Dajan, being the only opening outside their villages. The Huwwara checkpoint is an internal checkpoint south of the city of Nablus, at the intersection of Roads 60 and 5077 (between the settlements of Bracha and Itamar). This checkpoint was one of the four permanent checkpoints that closed on Nablus (Beit Furik and Awarta checkpoints to the east and the Beit Iba checkpoint to the west). It was a pedestrian-only barrier. As MachsomWatch volunteers, we watched therre since 2001 two shifts a day - morning and noon, the thousands of Palestinians leaving Nablus and waiting for hours in queues to reach anywhere else in the West Bank, from the other side of the checkpoint the destination could only be reached by public transport. In early June 2009, as part of the easing of Palestinian traffic in the West Bank, the checkpoint was opened to vehicular traffic. The passage was free, with occasional military presence in the guard tower. Also, there were vehicle inspections from time to time. Since the massacre on 7.10.2023, the checkpoint has been closed to Palestinians.
On February 26, 2023, about 400 settlers attacked the town's residents for 5 hours and set fire to property, such as houses and cars. Disturbances occurred in response to a shooting of two Jewish residents of Har Bracha by a Palestinian Terrorist. The soldiers stationed in the town did not prevent the arson and rescued Palestinian families from their homes only after they were set on fire. No one was punished and Finance Minister Smotrich stated that "the State of Israel should wipe out Hawara." Left and center organizations organized solidarity demonstrations and support actions for the residents of Hawara.Hawara continued to be in the headlines in all the months that followed: more pogroms by the settlers, attacks by Palestinians and a massive presence of the army in the town. It amounted to a de facto curfew of commerce and life in the center of the city. On October 5, 2023, MK Zvi established a Sukkah in the center of Hawara and hundreds of settlers backed the army blocked the main road and held prayers in the heart of the town all night and the next day. On Saturday, October 7, 23 The "Swords of Iron" war began with an attack by Hamas on settlements surrounding Gaza in the face of a poor presence of the IDF. Much criticism has been made of the withdrawal of military forces from the area surrounding Gaza and their placement in the West Bank, and in the Hawara and Samaria region in particular, as a shield for the settlers who were taking over and rioting.
On November 12, 2023, the first section of the Hawara bypass road intended for Israeli traffic only was opened. In this way, the settlers can bypass the road that goes through the center of Hawara, which is the main artery for traffic from the Nablus area to Ramallah and the south of the West Bank. For the construction of the road, the Civil Administration expropriated 406 dunams of private land belonging to Palestinians from the nearby villages. Za'tara (Tapuah) Za'tara is an internal checkpoint in the heart of the West Bank, at the intersection of Road 60 and Road 505 (Trans-Samaria), east of the Tapuah settlement. This checkpoint is the "border" marked by the IDF between the north and south of the West Bank, in accordance with the policy of separation between the two parts of the West Bank that has been in place since December 2005. At the Za'tara checkpoint, there are separate routes for Israelis and Palestinians. In the route for Israelis, there are no inspections and the route for Palestinians inspects.
