Judith G 14:45 – On the way from Qalqilya to the J’it Junction (Highway #55), we see a few groups of young men and women with backpacks, apparently on their way to Homesh. No checkpoint at J’it Junction. 15:00 – On Highway #60, on the way to Deir Sharaf, immediately after the turnoff to Shave Shomron, we run into an IDF checkpoint.  Four soldiers are directing traffic and prevent our entering.  The commander, N., says that there is an order not to allow Israelis to pass through.  After a telephone clarification, we park at the entrance to the nearby quarry, watch what is going on, and wait for the Palestinian youth whom we were supposed to meet at Beit Iba in order to give him a summons and appropriate permits for visiting Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.  (Elisheva has been dealing with this for a few weeks, trying to help a family from Nablus with serious health problems which had been brought to her attention).  Palestinian cars go by in both directions with no delay, but Israelis are not allowed through.  A few cars with Israeli license plates (yellow) do go through – they seem to belong to security services.  A small Israeli car with young ultra-orthodox men goes quickly and tries to cross the checkpoint.  The soldiers stop them and, after a brief argument, the car turns around and returns on the road to Shavei Shomron.  Three Palestinians are sitting at the entrance to the quarry, watching what was going on in satisfaction:  “Not allowed!”  An empty bus comes down from the direction of Shavei Shomron, another goes up.  Private cars, mostly empty, go up and down on the road leading to Shave Shomron.
