Beit Iba, Qalqiliya, Wed 4.6.08, Afternoon
Translator: Judith G.
15:40 Beit IbaThe shed for pedestrians – empty. The pedestrians entering Nablus are inspected, but just the IDs. Once in a while, a line forms of up to 10 people, which is immediately finished. The Humanitarian line is empty, but a youth who want to use it is sent back to the shed. There must be order! No detainees. The soldiers:An officer from the Military Police is friendly and allows us to sit. The representative of the DCO is also pleasant. In contrast, the officer in charge is unpleasant. When we entered the checkpoint through the iron gate, he sent us back and asked us to go around the side.At the entrance line there were only 3 people – he asked them to go back and stand behind the red line. That is how he is, there is nothing to do about it.We noticed that he did take care of his soldiers and made sure that they drank water.
16:30. Nothing happening. We leave, but right away we discover we have a flat tire, so we are delayed until it can be fixed.
17:10 Qalqilya – no lines.
17:15 Sha'ar Eliyahu. We go through the settlers gate and this time they do not send us back.

A perimeter checkpoint west of the city of Nablus. Operated from 2001 to 2009 as one of the four permanent checkpoints closing on Nablus: Beit Furik and Awarta to the east and Hawara to the south. A pedestrian-only checkpoint, where MachsomWatch volunteers were present daily for several hours in the morning and afternoon to document the thousands of Palestinians waiting for hours in long queues with no shelter in the heat or rain, to leave the district city for anywhere else in the West Bank. From March 2009, as part of the easing of the Palestinian movement in the West Bank, it was abolished, without a trace, and without any adverse change in the security situation.Neta EfroniJun-4-2014Beit-Iba checkpoint 22.04.04

Qalqiliya checkpoint

Qalqilya is surrounded on all sides by the separation barrier. The only exit from the city is in the east of the city on the road that leaves the city in an easterly direction. This is where the checkpoint was located. When the checkpoint was active until 2009 our shifts watched long queues of cars being inspected at the only exit from the city to the West Bank. The checkpoint was canceled, but there is a military presence at the entrance to the city.Karin LindnerJun-4-2014Etz Ephraim settlement. Nurit overlooks Siniriya
