Beit Iba 15.15

The work is progressing quickly and soon we will have here a real "terminal" . There is little movement today, Wednesday which is usually full with the students at the end of the week. Someone said that Thursday had been added to their student hours. Is this so?  Raad of the Nablus DCO was there with a number of captains and the passage through was fairly quick. Tarak of the DCO  worked hard and the team of foreigners we found there told us that they had been there an hour and people were going through without being checked.

It is important to note that the building of the checkpoint now allows the people from Qusin to enter. At least so it seems and hopefully  this will enable the workers who go out in the morning to work from here and not have to wait in the direction of Tulkarm and Qalqiliya  to be checked. They  will only be checked when they come back home.

    • A perimeter checkpoint west of the city of Nablus. Operated from 2001 to 2009 as one of the four permanent checkpoints closing on Nablus: Beit Furik and Awarta to the east and Hawara to the south. A pedestrian-only checkpoint, where MachsomWatch volunteers were present daily for several hours in the morning and afternoon to document the thousands of Palestinians waiting for hours in long queues with no shelter in the heat or rain, to leave the district city for anywhere else in the West Bank. From March 2009, as part of the easing of the Palestinian movement in the West Bank, it was abolished, without a trace, and without any adverse change in the security situation.
