Bethlehem-Friday, 20.1.06 Observers: Efrat B., Illit R (Reporting) 9.45 AM- Bethlehem CP 300 A foreign person tells us control is very thorough but there are hardly any people who go through to Jerusalem. We see a few people entering the “terminal”. Outside 7 men are detained since 6 Am they tell us. They were held up below the “Tunnel road” and brought to wait for their IDs being checked and returned. They wait outside in the cold wind. After a call to “Magav Otef Jerushlaim”a jeep comes and the soldiers prevent us from further talking to the detainees. We place another call and are told we will be contacted back. There is a temporary check before the first Tunnel. There is a Hummer in front the entrance to El Arub refugee camp. 11.00 Beit Ummar There are soldiers at the “pill box” up the hill but are being told that all is quiet. 11.40 Bethlechem The men detained earlier are gone.

Beit Ummar
The Gush Etzion-Hebron road - which is the main axis of the southern Hebron Mountains - passes through the boundaries of the village. Many incidents of stone throwing occurred on this section of road. There is a checkpoint at the entrance to the village.
In March 2006, a 25-dunam land seizure order was issued around the settlement for the purpose of establishing a "special security area" (SHBM) and a warning fence around the nearby settlement, Carmei Tzur. In April 2019, 401 dunams of the land of the villages of Beit Omer and Halhul were expropriated for the purpose of paving a road that bypasses the house of Omer to the east. Demonstrations are held by the villagers against the seizure of land with the participation of Palestinian, Israeli and international activists.
