We continued driving along the winding wall and saw two fences blocking the way that leads nowhere, literally. The path closes on itself and at its end there is a watchtower. We could not figure out the meaning of it. Is the fence new or old? They had tried crossing to the other side of the wall without permits and had been caught by BP soldiers. Their IDs had been taken from them and they wait. One of the detainees showed us a valid passage permit to Beitar Illit, and claimed that it had been crumpled on purpose by one of the soldiers. We waited a while and when the soldiers did not turn up we called Gabai.Later on, three soldiers appeared. The commander explained to us that a work permit in the occupied territories (such as Beitar Illit) is good for crossing through Ma’ale Adumim and not via Jerusalem.
