Bethlehem CP 300, El Khadr, Etzion DCO, Wallje
Bethlehem and Surroundings, Friday 22.4.05 morningObservers: Ruhama W., Magdalena H., ( reporting) Bethlehem CP 300 nearly empty of people and just two cars waiting to get checked. We met volunteers from an international organization on their way to Hebron. They told us that a member of their group, named Adam, realized that at all CP’s where women from MachsomWatch are present, the behaviour of the soldiers is better and the waiting lines are shorter. Nice to hear! Inside Tantur two soldiers stand and a there are lot of finely dressed Palestian women, with their little children, waiting for the soldiers to leave. We explained to the soldiers that they are not allowed inside this area. They actually left closing the gate provocatively, but not before telling Ruhama, that she has no rights and is insigificant; like an enemy. Opposit Tantur, on the main road another jeep stopped Transits and checked the I.D’s of the passengers and sent people back to CP 300, despite the fact that the Transit was on the way south – outside of Jerusalem – and not inside Jerusalem where the Paletinians are not allowed entery (they were sent to CP 300 because they were illegally present in JErusalem…when in fact they were already out of the city).El- Khadr: A lot transit and traffic action, but no soldiers.Eziyon, at the traffic circle: No CP and no soldiers around Eziyon DCO closed.Wallaj’e CP manned by soldiers, no traffic or other people were seen in the area.

According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.
Checkpoints observed in H2:
- Bet Hameriva CP- manned with a pillbox
- Kapisha quarter CP (the northern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
- The 160 turn CP (the southern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
- Avraham Avinu quarter - watch station
- The pharmacy CP - checking inside a caravan with a magnometer
- Tarpat (1929) CP - checking inside a caravan with a magnometer
- Tel Rumeida CP - guarding station
