Bethlehem and Surroundings: Tuesday, May 17,05 PMObservers: Edna P., Yael Y. (reporting)15.00 – 18.30 We drove to Biet Omar in order to give reciepts for paid parking fines from Haya to Abu Nissim. At the Biet Jala checkpoint there were about 10 vehicles that passed quickly. At the Ezyon DCO there a few people who had handed in papers and were waiting for approval. Some of the people got their approvals and others were asked to bring more documents and call to find out if their affair was settled. The police window was closed. The applications we were shown (by the Palestinians) indicated if they were rejected by the Shabac or by the police. The owner of a quarry that delivers stone to Israel requested entrance into Israel in order to enter Israel to recieve payment and was rejected. He didn’t understand why he is Shabac rejected but when we asked him about his family he told us that two of his brothers were under arrest. We gave him the phone number of Firas. When the waiting time was long (over a half hour) we called to find out who is supposed to sign the permit to enter Jerusalem in order to visit Stl JOseph’s hospital the following day. As if by magic and not certain weather it was related to our phone call, the man was called immediatley to the window and recieved the permit he needed. El Khadr was full. We passed the dirt mound on the east. The drivers told us that almost every day there is a flying checkpoint in the internal road. Sometimes the soldiers come in order to check IDs by the dirt mound. MOstly the dirvers complained about not being able to make a living. At Bethlehem CP 300 there were many police cars and two detainees. ONe was in the shelter in front of the investigation room and we were told to move away and so left.במחסום 300 היו הרבה חיילים ומכוניות משטרה ושני מעוכבים, אחד בסככה שלפני חדר החקירות. נתבקשנו להתרחק והלכנו.
