CP 300. El Khadr, Etzion DCO
Bethlehem, Al Khader, Etsion, Sunday July 24,AM Observers: Sylvia P, Ofra B, Chana A (reporting) 6:45 Bethlehem CP 300: A cold morning. Closure. No one in the line going out and no detainees. Depressing. The only activity going on is the transfer (sic!) of huge slabs of concrete for the completion of the wall. They pass without a hitch… 7:15 El Khadr: No army presence. Lots of people. We see many workers at the entrance to the the El Khadr passage way seemingly hoping to get a ride into Jerusalem. But no one will get through even with a permit. Earlier we saw a military jeep close to the turnoff from the tunnel road into Jerusalem. One person turned to us for help: he is a man in his thirties, with a wife and two children, holding a letter in Hebrew asking for “at least to get a magnetic card. [proof of security clearance] My purpose in life is only to provide for my family with dignity.” We promise to send the letter to Lothstein, the legal counsel at the Beth El DCL. 8:15 Etzion: The usual. There are about 15 men waiting. The military windows as well as the police window are manned. We meet our Hebron lawyer, as usual, and take his mail to be posted in Jerusalem. No one asks for our help. We post the letter in Arabic with instructions on how to ask for the Shin Bet [GSS; Israel’s Security Service] stain to be removed from one’s record.
