In the DCO more announcements on seizing of lands.We need volunteers for the students day in the Hebrew university. Bethlehem CP 300, 7am : Closure until Sunday. Yoav, the cp commander, refuses to “share” any information, and orders us to stand at the foot of the watchtower. Another commander, who passes by in a jeep, willingly specifies that hospitals’ medical personnel and church workers can pass today. “Humanitarian” cases, however, may pass only according to the cp commander’s consideration. From where we stood we could see that among the few cars and pedestrians who asked to pass – some were rejected after an argument, and had to return. We drove on to Beit Omar, but did not see any flying check points. In the entrance to El-Arub/Dahaishe many pedestrians and a military jeep. We ask the soldiers if the group of boys standing by are detained and were granted a laconic “not at all”. Etzion DCO, 8 amTotally deserted. No soldiers in the windows. No one waiting. A sleepy guard in the entrance to the attached camp tells us that there wouldn’t be anyone till Sunday morning. He couldn’t tell us what happens if someone comes to get an urgent permit. Hanging on the glass walls of the waiting room are warrants in Hebrew and Arabic “regarding seizing of land”. Warrant no. T/85/05 informs land seizing around Wallaje and Beit Jala, warrant no. T/86/05 (numbers telling also of the dozens of warrants issued during this year only) informs the seizing of hundreds of dunams in the area of Wallaje, Batir and Hussan. Signed brigadier general Yair Naveh, commander of the IDF in Judea and Samaria. Exemplary of “military justice”, the warrant opens with “the special security circumstances” in the area. The lands to be turned into a closed military zone are hilltop at the Kremizan area, and a 10.5 km land strip, width up to 130m, that will be used for the wall from Wallaje to Hafurit Hill.He promises that he will at least TRY “as much as possible”[sic] to let the owners know about the seizing. Copies of the warrants will be distributed by the Bethlehem DCO, so owners can appeal within only 7-10 days. The warrants are accompanied by maps in Hebrew only, on which place names were added in English with spelling mistakes. The above warrants are added to remains of warrants hanged on the message board from last month regarding seizing of lands in El –Khadr (61/05) and Beit Omar (55/05).
