DCO Etzion: A double standard for the Settlements

Place: Etzion DCO
Observers: Shlomit Steinitz and Natanya Ginzburg (report and photo)
Sep-29-2025
| Morning

There is little to report. One man buys a permit for 5,000 shekels in order to work in Tel Aviv. Still, he earns enough to make it worthwhile. He said he earns more than another man, so Shlomit remarked that the other man doesn’t have to pay 5,000 for the privilege.

Another man told us he works in Efrat as a reinforcing ironworker in construction, which is evidently a much sought-after occupation. He said he had not been in the area for three years, since he works in Efrat and does not need the DCO. Another example, he said, of Israeli hypocrisy: Palestinians are considered too dangerous to work in Israel, yet they can work in the settlements. He hadn’t known there was another checkpoint besides the one for Israelis, and simply sailed through. Shlomit commented that he was lucky they didn’t shoot him.
