Deir Sharaf, Mon 28.12.09, Morning
There is no roadblock or signs of a checkpoint. Just the presence of soldiers on the left hand side of the road who do not even look at us as we drive towards the direction of Beit Iba. We turn left towards the Jenin road and Shavei Shomron and reach the road block which, we are told, is due to works on the road. We turn around and go back the way we came. On arrival at the soldiers post, we open the window and ask if we could go through to Nablus. The soldiers seem amused but make no effort to dissuade us (even though we are headed in the opposite direction).

Deir Sharaf checkpoint is located west of Nablus and south of the settlement of Shavei Shomron, at the entrance to the village of Deir Sharaf on the road leading to Nablus. The checkpoint was activated in early March 2009 after the Beit Iba checkpoint was closed. Palestinians are allowed through the checkpoint , but not for Israelis. Unlike the checkpoints leading to Qalqilya and Tulkarm, crossing of Israeli Palestinians is only allowed on Saturdays.
