9:40  Deir Sharaf.  The soldiers at the Deir Sharaf checkpoint.  “Have you come to inspect us?”  “No, we’re here to calm you down.” Traffic is relatively light, and most go through without inspection.  When they do decide to inspect a vehicle, they do so thoroughly.  All the passengers in a taxi that was stopped were asked to get out and were interrogated, and the dog handler also came over with the dog who sniffed through the car.  The whole procedure took a fairly long time, about 20 minutes.  We left when the taxi did.

    • Deir Sharaf checkpoint is located west of Nablus and south of the settlement of Shavei Shomron, at the entrance to the village of Deir Sharaf on the road leading to Nablus. The checkpoint was activated in early March 2009 after the Beit Iba checkpoint was closed. Palestinians are allowed through the checkpoint , but not for Israelis. Unlike the checkpoints leading to Qalqilya and Tulkarm, crossing of Israeli Palestinians is only allowed on Saturdays.
