When we arrived at the checkpoint that has opened again following last weeks events, we saw a line of dozens of cars coming from the direction of Nablus. The traffic going towards Nablus was moving without delay. The soldiers did not delay cars for random checks but it appeared to us that they were holding up traffic and releasing it slowly. There were about ten soldiers there. Some were doing nothing (it appeared that they were on the verge of a shift change). We called the Liaison and Coordination Administration and the Humanitarian hotline and the traffic towards Nablus began to flow without delay and without random checks. In a few minutes the line had disappeared. We called the Liaison and Coordination Administration again to give them an update and the soldier whom we talked to said she had talked to the soldiers at the checkpoint.

Deir Sharaf checkpoint is located west of Nablus and south of the settlement of Shavei Shomron, at the entrance to the village of Deir Sharaf on the road leading to Nablus. The checkpoint was activated in early March 2009 after the Beit Iba checkpoint was closed. Palestinians are allowed through the checkpoint , but not for Israelis. Unlike the checkpoints leading to Qalqilya and Tulkarm, crossing of Israeli Palestinians is only allowed on Saturdays.
