Efraim Gate, Jubara, Anabta, Monday, 12.9.05, AMObservers: Ronny S., Naomi L., Herzliyya A., Edna M. (reporting)Efraim Gate06:30 – The new installation is open. I checked yester eve with K., Head of the DCO, who told me that it is open since yesterday, from 04:30. But, very few workers cross it. Even workers with valid permits till October that come, are sent back. The explanation that I got was, that only permits that have been issued from 30 August on are valid, namely, harassment under a bureaucratic mantle. We informed the transit drivers, most of them Israeli Arabs who had been waiting for the workers – some of whom are employers – about the situation. They told us about a further problem; they cannot receive more than 2 authorizations for hiring employees (an authorization that is crucial for obtaining a working permit) while Jewish employers can receive 20 such authorizations. No more than 50 workers crossed the Gate on this day. When we left, buses for the families of prisoners arrived. JubaraThe people at Abu-Hatem’s coffee shop do not complain. Children go through to school; supplies of vegetables pass without excess of inspections; the soldiers are cooperative and relaxed; farmers go over to cultivate the lands; there are no rolling roadblocks on the under-pass road. The only Palestinians vehicles that are allowed on the upper settlers road are those of the residents of Shufa (upper and down), Saffarin and Beit-Lid, because there is no other way for them to get to their district town – Tulkarm. Anabta08:15 – By the gray bar five taxis are filling the cars with passengers. Taxis come and go. They are satisfied. They make a livelihood. Even the coffee cart stands already at some corner. Roadblock routine. 08:30 – We left.
