el-Nashash, Nebi Yunis, Etzion DCO, Monday, 25.9.06 AMObservers: Chaya A, Idit N, Idit R, Ada G (reporting)07:30 NashashMany taxis parked. People come to us with requests, various and usual, some to do with paperwork. In any event we had no documents to return because there were no policemen at Ras el-Amud last week. During the 45 minutes we were there, one military jeep passed without stopping.08:45 el-AroubSoldiers in an observation point on the main road, machinegun aimed at the road. At the entrance to the agricultural college, two more soldiers. The road empty and clear, little traffic.09:05 Beit UmmarUsual traffic, individuals approaching us with various requests.09:30 Nebi YunisA number of people waiting for us, their papers are requests were dealt with. The coffee vendor wasn’t there because of Ramadan10:30 Etzion DCOAs always people waiting for hours, pace of work a crawl and progress very slow.Till 10:30 five men received magnetic cards, ten more waiting inside, and the rest – a few score – waiting outside, in the hut, embittered and despairing. Among them people waiting for permits for medical visits, one man whose wife is being operated on today, and he got a permit for tomorrow. We were promised that it would be dealt with. A woman has to have an operation tomorrow in a Jerusalem clinic, waiting for hours still without the permit. At the permit centre we are promised that everyone will get permits today. The slow pace of work is explained by the festival (Ramadan) which makes the pressure more than usual.I met H, whose wife had a bad cancer, and has been through hard treatments but he did not get a pass to accompany her. Meanwhile, she died and he is still GSS prohibited and is begging them to talk to him and tell him why he is prohibited, and what is he supposed to have done? His brother was wounded by IDF gunfire, and lost an eye. Whosoever can understand, good luck to them – I can’t!!

Beit Ummar
The Gush Etzion-Hebron road - which is the main axis of the southern Hebron Mountains - passes through the boundaries of the village. Many incidents of stone throwing occurred on this section of road. There is a checkpoint at the entrance to the village.
In March 2006, a 25-dunam land seizure order was issued around the settlement for the purpose of establishing a "special security area" (SHBM) and a warning fence around the nearby settlement, Carmei Tzur. In April 2019, 401 dunams of the land of the villages of Beit Omer and Halhul were expropriated for the purpose of paving a road that bypasses the house of Omer to the east. Demonstrations are held by the villagers against the seizure of land with the participation of Palestinian, Israeli and international activists.
