Bethlehem, thurs. Oct. 21, 04-PM Observers: Eva , Gili, Nurit (reporting Behelehm CP 300 -we arrived at about 3:30 and found a long line of vehicles waiting. There was a slow and through checking of each vehicle. We me S.C., a high ranking officer who arrived in a jeep a few minuets after we did and he spoke to us politely. He told us that there was an “activity” going on in the area and that is why traffic had been held up at this CP. He said that the “activity” is now over and so traffic will resume.Al Khadr- There was a lot of traffic at the entrance to Al Khadr and a lot of congestion, partyly due to the fact that the buses and taxis were not allowed to enter the parking area they had used before. There were no soldiers or police around and despite the congestion it seemed to us that the people were in a good mood. They told us that the congestion is due to it being the end of the week and people going home for Ramadan.Etzion Cp – nothing was going on there. Etzion DCO -The DCO was closed even though it was just a little after 4 pm. We met a sad looking man who had tried to visit there and found it was closed. We gave him a lift and he told us that he is the father of 8 and has not worked for four years. He wanted to get a magnetic card with the hope that he could somehow get work inside Israel. HE asked for our help and getting a magnetic card. CAn anyone tell me who can help with this? Beit Jalla -the checkpoint was manned by two soldiers but there was hardly any traffic. Perhaps because it was already getting dark and peope were home because of Ramadan.Wallaje – One car was detained but both the soldier and the detainee were quite cheerful and told us that all is well and there was just a routine check.
