Etzion DCO: Temple of the Bureaucracy of the Occupation
Like in our last visit here the waiting room was cramped. On arrival at 10 pm we were told that only five people had entered the offices. Since most people came for the magnetic cards, we wonder how burdensome the task is for the soldiers, who work (hopefully) in the offices.
The number machine only gives numbers to those who need to go to the police. I guess the officer also feels like he can’t do two tasks at once.
A woman needs to go to the hospital and wants her husband to go with her. But they must first go through the Palestinian Authority.
Her husband is very suspicious of us and she tries to calm him down.
The speakers have been broadcasting music very loudly as usual lately. Shlomit called the Civil Administration and asked them to call people in and also to cut off the blaring music. The soldiers told us that there was only one machine that worked, and that they would ask about the music and that we could write a complaint and pass it on to them. It will surely take a month to get an answer but we are not worried. The enlightened occupation is not going to disappear in a month. When we receive an answer, we will be happy to tell you what the result is.
Palestinians don’t complain about the music. They know that not only there is no point in doing so, it may even make their situation worse.
A man wants to enter Israel to accompany his wife who is about to give birth.
A couple is here with a young man studying at a university in Jordan who has been summoned for interrogation. We know what it’s all about.
We are pleased to announce that our diligent soldiers have found the time to order four pizzas delivered to them under the gate. Two soldiers went out to pick up the shipment, one guarding the other or maybe the pizzas. I hope that while carrying out their arduous duties they will find time to eat.
