Etzion DCO: Where is my son?
This time we received full cooperation from the three men who were sitting on the steps. One of them had come to look for his son who had been arrested 10 days ago and in the beginning the father did not know where he was. Later he was told that he would be freed that day. While we were there he was told by the Moked LeHaganat HaPrat that his son had been sentenced to four months. The young man was due to marry in five days. We, having leftist suspicious natures, wondered if the Israeli authorities had known of this. After all, what a unique opportunity to harass a Palestinian family and turn a joyous affair into a nightmare which will never be forgotten. In the meantime, Karim spoke to him and he knew nothing more than he told us. In other words, we do not know where the son was tried, if he had a lawyer and why no one from his family was allowed to be present.
These pictures were taken of the wadi which we pass on our way to that hell house. A polite term for the DCO… Is it like the Palestinians who are annihilated?
Some of the cars no longer have license plates on them. There were two police men there – one assuming a manly pose and the other interrogating two Palestinians. We guess that these were cars which were no longer roadworthy. We did not go nearer as with the atmosphere of the police as it is now, we did not want to be detained and interrogated too.
One Palestinian man from Jerusalem, a contractor, was there with papers for building in the settlements. His workers are Palestinians…. suddenly it is safe that they work for the settlers but not in Israel. We the roads the Palestinians improve for the settlers. Pity we cannot stop to show you how many areas Palestinians work and are ‘kosher’.
