Habla Checkpoint (1393)

Observers: Nina S. and Hertzliya A.
Oct-08-2018
| Afternoon

Opening Hours: 13:15 to 14:15

13:10. We arrived early. 3 persons are waiting in the shed. They claim that the soldiers open the gate “depending on them” – i.e. when they themselves arrive, between 13:00 to 13:30.

13:15 The soldiers arrive. A. comes to organize the people intending to pass and tells us that the agricultural gates have been opened but that they don’t allow children to pass. At Ras a Tira they open the gate at 08:30 in the morning, and in the evening too.

13:18 The entry gate to Habla is opened. The persons passing are checked near the gate, not in the checking shed, which isn’t manned today. The flow of persons passing is very scarce today, but there are also motorized vehicles.

According to the soldiers the gate at Ras a Tira is opened at 09:20 and in the afternoon at 16:00. They confirm that children are not allowed to pass on for the olive picking unless permits have been arranged for them. The pedestrians and the vehicles pass all the time at a very slow pace. Next to us sits a beautiful charming, smiling young woman. She tells us that she is a teacher from the neighboring Bedouin tribe, Arb Al-Ramadan, and that she is returning home after a day’s work.

14:05 There is nobody left.
14:10 The gates are being shut

The Habla checkpoint (1393) was established on the lands of the residents of Qalqilya, on the short road that

connected it for centuries to the nearby town of Habla. The separation barrier intersects this road twice and cut off the residents of Qalqilya from their lands in the seam zone.(between the fence and the green line).
There is a passage under Road 55 that connects Qalqilya to the sabotage This agricultural barrier is used by the farmers and nursery owners established along Road 55 from the Green Line and on both sides of the kurkar road leading to the checkpoint.
This agricultural checkpoint serves the residents of Arab a-Ramadin al-Janoubi (detached from the West Bank), who pass through it to the West Bank and back to their homes. The opening hours (3 times a day) of this agricultural checkpoint are longer than usual, about an hour (recently shortened to 45 minutes), and are coordinated with the transportation hours of a-Ramadin children studying in the occupied in the West Bank.
