On the other side a Border Police soldier is holding two children, one of whom has a reputation as a brat, cursing and annoying. We approach; the soldier orders K., our driver, to move away after asking whether he’s Moslem. He tells us not to interfere. Soon the boy is transferred to the Pharmacy checkpoint. Later we saw him with a group of children, still rowdy…
Tel Rumeida
Near the home of the Heikhal family we searched for the bonfire that had been mentioned in the previous report but couldn’t find it. The archaeological dig progresses.
The young salesman in the store next to ‘Azam’s metal shop, a relative of the store owner, wants a ride to Jerusalem. We told him we’d see whether we could take him.

According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.
