Ar-Ram – Qalandiya, 2.8.05, AM Watchers: Rivka Y (visitor), Yehudith E., Orit Y. (reporting)Anata6:50: Free traffic of vehicles and pedestrians. No detainees. There are few pedestrians due to the closure. Ar-Ram7:20: Free traffic of vehicles. No detainees. A soldier (not a border policeman) is checking the pedestrians and writing their ID’s. CDO officer is in the cabin. A man who forgot his permit at home is not allowed to pass to Jerusalem. He has to get to St. John hospital for an eye examination for his son who is with him (about 6 years old). Dalia Basa is not available on her phones and the soldier refuses to let him pass. We cannot help him and he and his son return. QalandiyaA long line of cars on their way to Jerusalem. The cars wait for about 10 minutes. Pedestrian traffic flows regularly. We pass through the checkpoint to examine the waiting time in the traffic jam. On our way back we go through the paralel path to the main path of pedestrians, following the soldiers’ order from previous shifts of Machsom-watch. We are told by a soldier to go through the main path. There are no clear instructions in this area too, apparently. As we pass, a soldier directs his gun toward us. We ask him why he does that, and he removes it, embarrassed. We leave the checkpoint at about 8:30. On our way to Jerusalem we encounter a temporary checkpoint. The soldier claims it has been there for two years already.
