Anata, Ar-Ram, Qalandiya, Monday, 3.10.2005, AM, 7.00 to 8.20Observers: Dalia K., Tamar A. (reporting)The normality of occupation on the eve of Rosh Hashana and the beginning of the Ramadan7.00 – Anata CheckpointCrowds of people, in particular pupils, and a long line of cars whose end inside the Shuafat Refugee Camp we can’t see. People also pass over the hill on the left, there are also three BP-men who are checking. The checking is quick, pupils aren’t checked. At the checkpoint were 6 detainees when we arrived, they were released after some minutes. A teacher at a school on Mount of Olives asked for our help: He has a magnetic card and always got a permit to work there, but now, he didn’t get it any more.7.30: The flow of pupils has nearly stopped. On the way to the Ar-Ram Checkpoint through the Shuafat and Bet Hanina neighbourhoods there are traffic jams and many pupils.7.55 – Ar-Ram CheckpointA few pedestrians. A line of about 20 cars in the Jerusalem direction, waiting time 12 minutes. In the Ar-Ram direction there is a line of cars at least from the Pisgat Ze’ev-Beit Hanina junction, a BP-men checks mainly the minibuses. One of them has to wait for four minutes until the IDs are returned, the others are checked quicker. At 8.10 the checking of the cars that drive out of Jerusalem is stopped. We met op with Rachel and Alina from the Abu Dis shift.Rachel and Alina started at Qalandiya Checkpoint where they stayed from 7.40 to 8.00 and found flowing traffic. We decided that one shift will continue to Abu Dis and the other to Sawahre. On our way to Sawahre, Dalia and I passed through Qalandiya, but we didn’t stop there.8.45 – Qalandiya CheckpointFrom far away it seems that there is the regular traffic. Before the junction with road 45 (Jerusalem-Giv’at Ze’ev) there is a rolling checkpoint – a BP-jeep is standing on the road. At the permanent checkpoint on road 45 in the Jerusalem direction a minibus is undergoing checking.
