Abu-Dis, Sheikh Saed,Zeitim CP, The ContainerSunday, 06.05.2007, AMObservers: Meira A., Dalia K. (reporter)Sheikh Saed: 06:45 – It has been a long time since we have been here, and the new yellow gate closing on the checkpoint is new to us.There are BP men and civil guards in the checkpoint. The soldiers in the checkpoint show high spirits. They behave nicely to those who go through (those who have permits and the right ID’s, of course), and to us. They even sing to themselves during action. All this among barbed wire fences, piles of stones, a generator, a unit of field toilets, and stench that rises from the heated garbage piles that piled up during the winter and the spring around the checkpoint.A serious problem that has not yet been solved is the problem of the women teachers. There is a group of women teachers who live in Sheikh Saed and teach in Jerusalem. These teachers have no up-to-date permits and therefor they prevent them from entering Jerusalem every day. We called Elisha in order to find out what can be done. Elisha claimed that they have to come to Beit El DCO in order to get a permit. We faced the same problem in the past with teachers from Sheikh Saed and from Kalandia. In those cases too, the teachers did not have permits. Our inquiries in the past showed that the Palestinian authority (or Hamas) is not ready to cooperate with the occupation authorities, and without papers from them the teachers can not arrange things in Beit El.Abu-Dis: 07:15 – There is no traffic in the street of the Pishpash.Zeitim CP: 07:20 – A scarse movement of pedestrians.Al Ezariya: – 07:40 – There is no checkpoint at the exit of Al Ezariya. The Container: 07:50 – It is very hot despite the very early hour. A slow line of cars climbs from the south. The soliders in the chekpoint are working, but doing it slowly. Every once in a while cars are stopped for checkup of documents.
