Abu-Dis,Sheikh Saed Tuesday, 11.07.2006, PMObservers: Chana G., Rahel W. (reporting)Sheikh Saed – Arrived at about 2:00 PM. It was very quiet. We crossed over the checkpoint and spoke to some of the men at the shops near the entry to the neighborhood. They said that there had been a very difficult group of borderpolice on duty in the morning who would not allow people through – including those with proper permits. At one point, when a large group of people assembled near the checkpoint, they threw tear gas. The men said that the afternoon crew was much better. During the whole time that we were there, fewer than 10 people crossed in either direction. The whole area was essentially deserted. When we crossed back, the borderpolice were very cordial. We continued along the road via Silwan to Abu- Dis. We went up to the Cliff Hotel which just falls into an increasing state of neglect. We then went along the route of the wall up to the pishpash. Just two people, a young man on crutches and a person accompanying him crossed back to the other side. Otherwise, the only people around were the border police.
